About

The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday and Day of Service promotes Dr. King's ideals of service, equality, and non-violence. We honor his legacy with our annual Read-In event on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 10 - 12 PM.

Volunteering at this event is a wonderful opportunity to mentor and support children in our community and promote the joy of reading and the beauty of diversity. Children between kindergarten and 5th grade will be paired with a "Reading Buddy" who will lead them through various educational activities. At the event, each child will receive one age-appropriate book and one new civil rights-themed book.📚❤️

The program is organized by Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University, HandsOn NWNC and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. To participate, you must attend training from 6-7 pm on December 5th, December 12th and January 9th.Let's celebrate Dr. King's life and promote his message about civil rights, literacy, and the importance of community service!
